The phlegm or mucus that is released during a coughing fit can occur after a cold. However, many people frequently experience phlegm because of an allergy or because of reactions to several types of food. Fish and nuts: These foods contain many nutrients such as zinc which can help you to keep your immune system in good condition. In addition, Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and fish oil help reduce inflammation of the throat and phlegm.
